It is NOT illegal to drive barefoot in Texas, even though a lot of people think that there is a law. In fact, there are rules about going into shops or being in public places without shoes, but no state in the USA has a rule against driving barefoot. However, it is not always recommended, because bare feet don’t always offer enough traction on the pedals to control a car the way you need to.

However, there are some arguments that going without shoes can give you more awareness of your vehicle, which can translate to more control. Also, going barefoot in the car can also be a lot better than some options.

What are the worst shoes to wear while driving?

While going barefoot isn’t recommended, there are other shoe choices that are worse. Any shoe that may slip off the pedals suddenly or interfere with a driver’s ability to estimate the correct pressure is not ideal. Some shoe styles that can be problematic include flip-flops, slippers, high heels, wedges, and extra wide shoes.
