Local businesses in Austin have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic, and it’s not too hard to understand why. Not only is everyone encouraged to stay home, but non-essential businesses and services have been suspended by law. The entire world economy has taken a heavy hit from nearly every angle.
But it’s no use denying the current reality. Instead, we must ask: what are our options? How can one still support local Austin businesses when stay-at-home orders are in effect?
Buy Gift Cards Online
Even if a shop is closed indefinitely and not offering any services, it may still be offering gift cards. Check out the website of a local shop to see if they are indeed doing so.
Gift cards can be viewed as one step above a donation in terms of usefulness. You’re giving the business some money, and if they survive the current economic freeze, you’ll be able to then use that money at their shop. If they don’t survive, you will at least have helped the owners out with your contribution.
Check Small Business Websites
Check small business websites- many of them have updates related to how they’re dealing with the current situation, which may include ways you can support them. They’ll also typically provide other relevant info, such as new hours or new services. Many businesses that may not have offered remote/delivery services before are now doing so.
